My name is Julie Griffiths. I have lived in Shrewsbury all my life.
I began dental nursing when I left school. I took an interest in this as I was always keen to work along side something in the medical profession. My first practice was a mixed NHS/Private practice. Whilst training for my dental nurse examination, I passed my NVQ level 2 in customer services. I gained my Dental Nurse qualification in 2000; I was so pleased and this achievement was the start of the progression of my career.
In the same year as I qualified, Boots Chemist decided to branch out into healthcare. This lead to them opening a dental practice in Shrewsbury town centre. They offered career opportunities and I immediately applied for one of the dental nurse roles. I was lucky to get accepted.
The training that we received was outstanding for its time. We were sent away for 2 whole weeks to Nottingham with the rest of the team where the bonding began. Once we were all adequately trained, we set up from scratch opening the door with no patient base at all. This was such a challenge and the practice grew from strength to strength. I had a very happy few years with Boots, also within those few years I welcomed my daughter Charlotte into the world in 2003.
Sadly, in 2004, Boots announced that they were closing all their healthcare centres. This was devastating news as we had all worked so hard to build the business, but on this negative news came positive news; I was approached by the Dental Spa, who offered me a position as a Patients’ Advisor. This was at another state of the art practice which I gladly accepted.
In 2005, I qualified as an Oral Heath Educator, which allowed me to assist at all kids clubs running at the Dental Spa and also to go out to schools to give dental health advice.
During my time at the Dental Spa, I was promoted to senior Patient Advisor after completing my BTEC level 3 as a patient care coordinator, following this I started working along side Dr Simon Reid in the minor surgery skin clinic, which led to me gaining my BTEC level 4 in laser and light based therapies. Since 2009, I have been working as a laser therapist with my own clinics offering Laser Hair removal, Tattoo removal and various other skin treatments.
In 2013, I was again promoted to Assistant Manger once completing my Practice Manager’s modern apprenticeship, taking on a joint role as Practice Manager with my colleague Caron who has also been at the dental spa for many years.
This joint role has been fantastic for us both and the Dental Spa as over the last year the practice has grown to a new level. We look forward to many more good years as a team working at the dental spa and welcoming new services as we grow.
Started work at Winchester Hosue in 1978 as receptionist. Learnt every aspect of the job, over the years trained many members of the team and made lifelong friends. Promoted to Head Receptionist, managed accounts wages & stock ordering. Married in 1986, left in 1990 to start family, two daughters. In 1999 worked part time in a primary school for 10 years, during this time also returned to Winchester House working as reception covering for staff holidays/sickness, when needed. Appointed Practice Manager in 2009, felt like I had never left. Also working with 3 members of staff I had worked with over 20 years ago, and of course Mr Bala + Mr Soltysiak!
I enjoy going to the cinema & theatre, other hobbies include walking, gardening & cruise holidays.
Seline began her journey at Winchester House in 1985. She gained her qualification NEBDN in 1987 and worked with Mr Soltysiak till April 1994 when she left to start her family. She later returned in October 2007.
Seline enjoys working in the surgery with Mr Soltysiak. They’ve worked together for quite a few years and she believe they make a great team. It’s rewarding seeing treatment progress from the planning stage to the end result and witnessing the patient satisfaction. She knows that her work makes a difference to patients’ lives and she finds that rewarding.
Seline enjoys travelling with her family. She used to play netball in the Shrewsbury league until 2 years ago when she stopped due to an injury. She spends a lot of time at the gym taking classes and trying her best to keep fit and healthy. In her spare time, she enjoys reading a good book, spending time with her family and enjoying a cold glass of white wine.
June qualified as a dental nurse (NEBDN) in May 1987. She joined the practice in September 2018, having previously worked at the same practice for over 30 year (which was mixed private and NHS) She’s also a St John’s trained first aider. She likes working with people and enjoys cosmetic dentistry. She enjoys helping improve patients’ smiles to chat with nervous patients to put them at their ease.
She is a keen rower at Pengwern boat club. You can often see her out on the river early mornings at a weekend and summer evenings after work.
I began my role at Winchester House on the 22nd of March 2019, after qualifying from Learn Direct in July 2017 with a Level 3 Diploma Indental Nursing. Before that I attended Shrewsbury Sixth Form College where I gained A levels in Geography, History, Sociology and English Literature.
My favourite part of the role is making patients feel as relaxed and at ease as they possibly can. I find it really rewarding contributing to making the patients feel comfortable and calm by showing a friendly, reassuring nature.
I also really enjoy seeing treatment through from treatment planning to the end result helping patients achieve their happy smile.

I studied at William Brookes School in Much Wenlock where I gained my GCSEs in 2014. I then went on to complete my A levels at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College in 2016. After college I did some work cleaning before deciding to join the airlines where I gained my Attestation to fly as cabin crew and was awarded my wings. After a change of heart I’m now hoping to pave a career in the dental industry and am working towards my Dental Nursing Level 3 qualification.
I haven’t been at the practice long but in the short time I’ve been here I have been observing/shadowing the dentists and dental nurses and I can’t wait to get more involved. I’m looking forward to working with the public and being part of their dental journey.
I haven’t been at the practice long as I’ve not long started here I’m new to the industry, however I’m excited to start my dental career at such as friendly and welcoming practice.
